Classic Media, a company that’s been quietly collecting licenses to a small treasure chest of old-school cartoon licenses that could reboot themselves into profit amongst nostalgic audiences and an new generation eager to consume old-is-new material, has just been acquired by Dreamworks and the modern guardian of nostalgia, Jeffrey Katzenberg. What’s interesting about the acquisition is that while there are some notable properties, there are many that most people have forgotten about but could easily be relaunched into a viable property. Everything old is new again.
Mr. Hand sent asked Andre & Chris what they thought of the deal:
CHRIS: “Here’s hoping for a gigantic claymation movie team up of all them versus the duo of Godzilla and Skeletor! (with Bill Cosby as the celebrity narrator)”
No….really that’s exactly what Chris said.
ANDRE: “Very excited! I hope they can breathe new life into these properties. Classic Media was not doing anything with them so now I hope to see movies, proper dvd releases and merchandise. I’m also wondering if Mattel has to renegotiate the Filmation characters or if it will carry over.”
